The No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (16-0) defeated Mary Washington in twin bill, winning game one 7-0, and winning game two 12-0.

Game One:
That was more than enough for Hannah Hearl, who dominated in the circle. The Marlins' ace struck out 11 batters over five shutout innings, allowing just two hits. Savannah Ballou came on in relief to close out the final two innings, securing the shutout victory.

Taylor Mcqueen led the offense going 3-for-3 at bat with a home run and a double, scored two runs, and had three RBI. Morgan Tucker was 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and scored three runs. Alison Pollack was 2-for-3, with an RBI, and stole two bases. Laci Campbell was 2-for-4 with a triple, scored a run, and stole one base.

Virginia Wesleyan set the tone early in game one, pushing across two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Laci Campbell sparked the rally with a leadoff single and later scored on an RBI knock from Morgan Tucker, while Taylor Mcqueen and Alison Pollack followed with timely hits to make it 2-0.

After a quiet second inning, the Marlins added on in the third as Tucker doubled and came around to score on Mcqueen's RBI double. A sacrifice fly from Emma Adams later in the frame brought home another run, extending the lead to 4-0.

VWU broke the game open in the fourth inning with three more runs. Sarah Prosser reached and scored on Tucker's RBI double before Mcqueen delivered the big swing of the game, a two-run home run to left, pushing the advantage to 7-0.

Game Two:
Emma Adams handled the work in the circle, tossing three scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win, while Emma Orr finished the game to complete the shutout and secure the doubleheader sweep for the Marlins.

Laci Campbell led the offense in game two going 2-for-3 with a triple, scored two runs, and had three RBI, Morgan Tucker was 2-for-2 at bat, scored one run, and had one RBI. Taylor Mcqueen was 1-for-1 with a home run, scored two runs, and had an RBI.

In game two, Virginia Wesleyan wasted no time getting on the board, as Tucker reached and Mcqueen launched a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Marlins an early 2-0 lead.

The Marlins erupted in the second inning, scoring four runs with two outs. Hits from Laci Campbell, Samantha Deitsch, and Tucker fueled the rally, as VWU capitalized on timely hitting to stretch the lead to 6-0.

The offensive onslaught continued in the third, where the Marlins plated five runs. A sacrifice fly from Alison Pollack started the scoring before Campbell cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple. Riley Curtice followed with an RBI double as VWU built an 11-0 advantage.
