The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team (16-6, 11-2 ODAC) defeated Bridgewater 79-60 on the road.
Amari Moorer led the team with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, shooting 8-for-15 from the floor, with two assists, one block, and two steals.
Omari DeVeaux had 15 points, shot 6-for-12 from the field, 3-for-4 from the free throw line, six rebounds, four assists, and one block.
TJ East recorded 15 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the field, 1-for-2 from three-point territory, 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, grabbed seven rebounds, and had two assists.
Demeir Pollard tallied 11 points shooting 2-for-4 from the field, 2-for-3 from deep, and 5-for-7 from the free throw line, with one assist, and teammate
Paul Anderson registered 10 points shooting 4-for-9 from the floor, and 1-for-5 from beyond the arc, with five rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and three steals.
The Eagles started well, scoring the first four points of the contest, but Virginia Wesleyan countered with a 10-3 run to take a 10-7 lead at the 11:30 mark in the first half. However, Bridgewater responded by outscoring the Marlins 9-5 to take a 16-15 lead with 8:34 left in the first half.
The Marlins offense caught fire and went on a 10-2 run over the next two minutes to lead 25-18 with 5:37 left in the half. Over the next four minutes, the Eagles outscored the Marlins 11-8 to cut the lead to 33-29 with one minute left in the first half, but VWU finished the first frame with a 4-0 run to hold a 37-29 lead heading into the break.
After the break, Bridgewater came out hot, stringing together an 8-2 run to bring the score to 39-37 at the 16:47 mark in the second half. Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to extend their lead to 49-37 with 13:48 left in the half. The Eagles made a free throw to end their scoring drought, but the Marlins kept the pressure on and went on a 14-2 run fueled by the VWU offense going 2-for-2 from deep to increase their lead to 63-40 with 9:38 left in the game.
Over the next five minutes of the game, Bridgewater chipped away at the Marlins' lead, outscoring the visitors 12-6 to bring the score to 69-52 at the 3:56 mark in the second half. In the final minutes of the game, Virginia Wesleyan outscored the Eagles 10-8 to seal the 79-60 road win.
