The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team (6-1-1, 1-0-0 ODAC) opened conference play with a commanding 3-0 victory over Guilford College Saturday evening at the Armfield Athletic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
Seth Brown started in net for the Marlins and played just over 61 minutes, while
Ben Haynes came on for the final 28 minutes. The two combined for two saves to preserve the clean sheet as Virginia Wesleyan's back line held the Quakers to one shot in the first half.
Zach Bittler put the Marlins ahead in the 26th minute with his sixth goal of the season. The Marlins held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half,
Ryan McAdams doubled the lead early in the second half, finishing off a pass from Bittler in the 55th minute. Bittler struck again in the 79th minute, this time converting a feed from
Grady Lawrence to close out the scoring.
The Marlins return to action on Wednesday, October 1, at 7:00 p.m. for a White Out match at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex against Christopher Newport University.
