The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team (7-1-1, 1-0 ODAC) earned a 2-0 victory over Christopher Newport (7-1-2) on Wednesday evening at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex.
JaMarhe Wills made an early impact in the first half, putting the Marlins ahead with a goal in the 16th minute, his third of the season, as Virginia Wesleyan seized control of the match. Shortly after,
Giovanni Zizza doubled the lead in the 37th minute with his second goal of the year, giving VWU a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Ben Haynes was steady between the posts, recording four saves to keep Christopher Newport off the board and preserve the clean sheet. The Marlins' defense held firm in the second half, fending off nine total shots from the Captains, including four on target.
VWU finished with 10 total shots, including five on frame, and earned four corner kicks. Christopher Newport tallied eight corners but could not break through the Marlins' back line. Haynes anchored the defense with his fourth save late in the match to secure the shutout in the 2-0 result.
