Virginia Wesleyan Secures 1-0 Win Over Rutgers-Camden

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team (4-1-1) earned a 1-0 victory over Rutgers-Camden (3-1-1) on Sunday afternoon at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex.

JaMarhe Wills was active throughout the first half, creating multiple opportunities in the attacking third to keep Rutgers-Camden on their heels. Behind him, goalkeeper Seth Brown made four key saves to hold the Scarlet Raptors scoreless as the teams went into halftime locked at 0-0.

Virginia Wesleyan found the breakthrough in the second half, as Wills converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute for his second goal of the season. The Marlins continued to hold off Rutgers-Camden to secure the clean sheet.

VWU finished with 14 total shots, including seven on target, and matched Rutgers-Camden with eight corner kicks. Brown anchored the defense with four saves, securing his second shutout of the season in the 1-0 result.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, September 20, at 1:00 p.m., when they travel to face the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
