Dickinson opened the scoring late in the first quarter, finding the back of the cage at the 13:11 mark to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead. Virginia Wesleyan's defense held firm for much of the second quarter, but Dickinson doubled its advantage just before halftime in the 27th minute. The Marlins went into the break trailing 2-0.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point in the match. Dickinson capitalized on its offensive pressure with three goals in the span of five minutes to extend the Red Devils' lead to 5-0.
Virginia Wesleyan continued to battle into the fourth quarter and generated two shots on goal in the final frame, but Dickinson struck once more in the 48th minute to lead 6-0. Despite the deficit, the Marlins' defense worked tirelessly, highlighted by a strong performance from the goalkeeper.
