The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team has been ranked second in the 2025-26 ODAC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches. The Marlins earned 100 points, placing just behind Washington and Lee University, who secured the top spot with 121 points. Bridgewater (97), Lynchburg (90, 1 first-place vote), and Randolph-Macon (83) rounded out the top five in what promises to be another highly competitive ODAC season.

The Marlins enter 2025 following an outstanding 27-6 overall record and 13-2 mark in ODAC play last fall. Virginia Wesleyan showcased one of the league's most well-rounded attacks, totaling 1,591 kills while holding opponents to 1,297. Defensively, VWU out-dug opponents 2,079 to 1,909 and racked up 267 total blocks. At the service line, the Marlins delivered 242 aces, averaging nearly two per set to keep constant pressure on opponents.

Key returners will once again lead the charge in 2025. All-American Hannah Smith was the team's offensive leader last season, recording 518 kills (4.18 per set), 54 service aces, and finishing with a .255 hitting percentage. Madi Schmidt added another consistent scoring threat with 262 kills, 39 aces, and 29 assists across 122 sets played. Alexis Shaw also played a vital role, posting 224 kills and a .215 hitting percentage, giving the Marlins multiple reliable options at the net.

With this experienced core returning, Virginia Wesleyan looks poised to build on last season's success and continue its push toward an ODAC championship.

The Marlins will open their 2025 season at home on Friday, August 29, at 3:00 PM against Marymount University in the Marlins Invitational.
