The No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (45-3-1, 21-1 ODAC) won game one of the 2025 NCAA Super Regional Hosted by Virginia Wesleyan with an 8-0 shutout win over No. 17 Gettysburg.
Mackenzie Myers led the offense going 2-for-2, with a walk, and recorded two RBI,
Laci Campbell was 1-for-3, scored one run, and had two RBI, and the big hitter
Olivia Knight was 1-for-3 with a solo home run to deep center field.
Lauren Bible was on fire in the win, she pitched a complete 5.0 inning game, allowed two hits, zero runs, and registered three strikeouts.
In the bottom of the third,
Haley Sadler got things started by reaching on an error, setting the table for the offense. After a groundout moved Sadler to second,
Sarah Prosser and
Julia Piotrowski delivered back-to-back singles to load the bases.
Laci Campbell then reached on a fielder's choice that scored Sadler for the game's first run.
Morgan Tucker followed with a groundout that brought in another run, and
Mackenzie Myers capped the inning with a clutch two-run single up the middle. All four runs were unearned, but the Marlins made them count and jumped out to a 4–0 lead.
The momentum carried right into the fourth inning.
Olivia Knight led off by launching a solo home run to deep center field, thrilling the home crowd and extending the lead to 5–0. Sadler followed with a double and later scored on a groundout by Prosser.
Julia Piotrowski drew a walk, stole second, and came home on a sharp single up the middle by Campbell, giving the Marlins a commanding 7–0 advantage.
Virginia Wesleyan added one more run in the fifth.
Morgan Tucker singled and advanced to second on an error, prompting a pinch-running appearance by
Jenna Laird. After
Mackenzie Myers walked and both runners advanced,
Samantha Deitsch grounded out to move the runners up. Then, with two outs,
Olivia Knight reached on a fielder's choice and an errant throw by the shortstop allowed Laird to cross the plate for the Marlins' eighth run of the game.
