Virginia Wesleyan Punch Ticket to NCAA DIII Championship Round with a 10-1 Win over Gettysburg

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (46-3-1, 21-1 ODAC) defeated No. 17 Gettysburg 10-1 in game two of the NCAA Super Regionals to punch their ticket to the NCAA DIII Championship Round.

The Most Outstanding Pitcher of the NCAA Super Regional Hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University was senior Lauren Bible, and the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Super Regional Hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University was junior catcher Olivia Knight

Olivia Knight led the offense going 2-for-3 with two doubles, scored a run, and had two RBI, Morgan Tucker did great going 2-for-3, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and teammate Julia Piotrowski was 1-for-3, with a triple, scored one run, and had one RBI.

Hannah Hearl pitched well going 4.0 innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out three. Emma Adams came in to close the game as she pitched the last inning, allowed zero hits, and struck out two.

Virginia Wesleyan came out swinging in the top of the first, setting the tone with an offensive outburst. Julia Piotrowski sparked the rally with a blistering triple to right-center. Laci Campbell followed with an RBI single to plate the game's first run. The Marlins didn't stop there as Morgan Tucker drove in Campbell with a sharp single up the middle and advanced on the throw, then came home on a base hit from Mackenzie Myers. Gettysburg made a pitching change, but it didn't slow down the Marlins, as Olivia Knight laced a double to right field to score Myers and make it 4-0.

Gettysburg answered back in the bottom of the first and pushed one run across to cut the Marlin lead to 4-1.

The Marlins struck again in the fourth, blowing the game wide open with a six-run inning. Samantha Deitsch drew a leadoff walk, and Olivia Knight brought her home with his second double of the game. Brianna Jones and Sarah Prosser followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases, chasing Gettysburg's reliever. Piotrowski added a sacrifice fly to score Knight and extend the lead to 6-1. But Virginia Wesleyan wasn't done. Morgan Tucker kept the pressure on with an RBI infield single, and Myers walked to force in another run. The big blow came from Sammi Deitsch, who doubled to left field, driving in two more runs and capping off a devastating offensive display that sealed the 10-1 win over Gettysburg.
