Softball Claims Game One in ODAC Championship Final in 7-1 Win Over Randolph-Macon

The No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (40-3-1, 21-1 ODAC) defeated No. 23 RMC in game one of the 2025 ODAC Championship Final.

Samantha Deitsch led the offense going 1-for-3 with two RBI, Julia Piotrowski was 2-for-3, scored one run, and recorded one RBI, and Morgan Tucker was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Lauren Bible got the win in the circle as she pitched 4.2 innings, allowed two hits, one run, and struck out two, and Hannah Hearl came in relief and pitched 2.1 innings, allowed zero runs, zero hits, and had three strikeouts.

Virginia Wesleyan opened their scoring barrage in the bottom of the first inning as Julia Piotrowski ignited the rally with a bunt single. Laci Campbell followed with a line drive single to left, pushing Piotrowski into scoring position. Morgan Tucker then kept the momentum alive with a single through the left side, loading the bases. Mackenzie Myers lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing Piotrowski home for the game's first run. With two outs, Samantha Deitsch delivered a crucial two-RBI single to left, plating Campbell and Tucker to give the Marlins an early 3–0 lead.

The bats stayed hot for Virginia Wesleyan in the second as Haley Sadler worked a leadoff walk, and Alexis Hudgens reached on an error by the third baseman, putting two on with no outs. Prosser singled through the left side to load the bases. Campbell then reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in Sadler being thrown out at home, but a wild throw by the catcher allowed Hudgens to score, increasing the lead to 4–0. Campbell proceeded to steal second base before Tucker came through once again with a two-RBI single up the middle, scoring both Prosser and Campbell to extend the lead to 6–0.

After two scoreless innings from either team, the Yellow Jackets scored in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 6-1.

Virginia Wesleyan added insurance in the bottom of the sixth. Mirandah Jenkins pinch-hit and drew a walk. Hudgens re-entered to pinch-run and advanced to second on a groundout by Prosser. Piotrowski capped off her productive day with a single to right field, driving in Hudgens for her second run scored and giving the Marlins a commanding 7–1 lead.
