Marlins Sweep Wildcats in Two No-Hitters

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (17-1, 4-0 ODAC) swept conference opponent Randolph in two no-hitter shutouts. Winning 10-0 in game one and 9-0 in game two.

Game One:

Laci Campbell led the offense going 1-for-2 with three RBI and two stolen bases. Mackenzie Swanson was 1-for-1, with a double, an RBI, and scored one run, and Cali Megaro was 1-for-1 with a double, and an RBI.

Lauren Bible got the win in the circle and pitched 3.0 innings, allowed no runs, no hits, and struck out three.

The scoring began in the first inning when Laci Campbell walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Mackenzie Myers then delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing Campbell home for the game's first run.

The offense continued to roll in the second inning. Joslyn Woodward walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a single by Lauren Bible, who also stole second. After Julia Piotrowski walked to load the bases, a costly error by the left fielder allowed Woodward to score, unearned. Brooke Powell reached base on an error by the left fielder, allowing two more runs to cross the plate. Laci Campbell then hit a fielder's choice that scored two more runs, thanks to a throwing error by the shortstop to the catcher to put the Marlins up 4-0.

The third inning saw more of the same as Morgan Tucker singled in a run, driving home Prosser. In the fourth, Piotrowski singled, stole second, and was brought home by a clutch single from Campbell, who also stole second. Myers contributed with another sacrifice fly to make it 7-0, and Campbell later scored on a wild pitch to add another run to the tally.

The offensive onslaught continued into the final inning. Autumn Boothe singled, and Mackenzie Swanson doubled in Boothe to make it 9-0. Then, pinch-hitter Cali Megaro, doubled to left center to score Swanson, capping off the 10-0 victory.

Game Two:

Morgan Tucker led the team going 3-for-3 at the plate, with a double, scored one run, and had one RBI. Olivia Knight was 2-for-3, had one RBI, and a stolen base, and teammate Laci Campbell was 1-for-2, scored two runs, had an RBI, and stole two bases.

Emma Adams recorded the win in the circle, she pitched 4.0 innings, allowed zero runs, zero hits, and struck out three.

Virginia Wesleyan took control early and never looked back, winning 9-0. The team got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Laci Campbell walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Morgan Tucker, giving them a 1-0 lead.

The scoring continued in the second inning. Brooke Powell singled and advanced to second on a left fielder error, followed by Emma Adams, who singled and stole second. Julia Piotrowski grounded out, driving in Powell for the second run. Campbell then singled in Adams for the third run, and the team added another run when Sarah Prosser reached base on a throwing error by the shortstop, allowing Campbell to score for a 4-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Marlins kept up the pressure. Morgan Tucker doubled, and Olivia Knight singled to put runners on the corners. A hit-by-pitch on Powell loaded the bases, and Emma Adams hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Tucker. Piotrowski reached base on a fielder's choice, and Powell scored with a throwing error by the third baseman. A subsequent error by the third baseman allowed Hudgens to reach base and score Piotrowski for a 7-0 advantage.

The team wasn't done yet. In the fourth inning, Prosser walked and stole second. Mackenzie Myers doubled in Prosser to make it 8-0, and Tucker's single, followed by Knight's RBI single, pushed the score to 9-0 and sealed the sweep over Randolph.
