Marlins Overcome Centre 6-1 in Non-Conference Match

The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team (4-6, 2-1 ODAC) hosted non-conference opponent, Centre College, and seized the victory by a score of 6-1.

Centre began doubles play with a 6-3 win at #1 over Sebastien Muller and Hovo Madanyan. Next to finish was court three where Tudor Vlad and Frieso ter Schiphorst won 6-2. The doubles point was decided at #2 where Rafael and Carlos Rullan Zarraga edged their opponents 6-4 to give the Marlins a 1-0 advantage.

Sebastien Muller and Tudor Vlad, at #4 and #1 singles respectively, finished back-to-back, only dropping four games each in their straight set victories to put the Marlins up 3-0.

Centre fought back with a win at the fifth line as Dylan Dethridge defeated Carlos Rullan Zarraga to bring the score to 3-1.

With pressure building as #2 and #6 singles were pushed to three sets, Francis Cabaddu emerged victorious over Isaac Flanery, at #3 by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4) to clinch the match for VWU.

Both Hovo Madanyan at #6 and Rafael Rullan Zarraga at #2 finished their opponents in three sets to secure the 6-1 Marlin win.
