The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (3-1) was defeated by Montclair State 16-5.
The Marlins offense was led by
Edgar Harwood who went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, scored two runs, and had two RBI.
Ty James was 2-for-3 at the plate, and teammate
John Stilwell was 2-for-3.
The Red Hawks started strong with six runs in the first inning. The Marlins responded with a run as
Edgar Harwood doubled to right field and
Nick Valentin singled to bring in Harwood to score a run for VWU.
Montclair State scored one run in the second and four runs in the top of the third to lead 11-1 heading into the bottom of the third. The Marlins scored two runs in the third inning as
Clay Clarke reached on an error, and
Edgar Harwood homered to score two runs to cut the lead to 11-3.
The Red Hawks scored a run in the fifth and three in the sixth inning to lead 15-3. Virginia Wesleyan fought back in the sixth as
Ty James singled to lead off the inning, then Meienschein doubled to put runners on second and third. Next,
Cameron Mailloux reached first on a dropped third strike that scored both runners to bring the score to 15-5.
Montclair State scored one run in the seventh to lead 16-5 to seal the win over VWU.
