Marlins Win Big in Twin Bill Against Mary Washington

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (6-0) swept Mary Washington on the road winning game one 12-0 and game two 14-2.

Game One:

Allison Pollack led the team going 3-for-4 at the plate, with a three-run home run, and a double, scored two runs, and had four RBI. Olivia Knight did well at bat going 3-for-4 with a double, scored one run, and had one RBI. Mackenzie Myers went 1-for-2 with a triple, scored three runs, had one RBI, and stole three bases.

Emma Adams got the win as she pitched 6.0 innings, allowed zero runs, one hit, and tallied four strikeouts.

After four scoreless innings from both teams, Mackenzie Myers was hit by a pitch to get on base, and stole second, third, and home for the first score of the game.

In the sixth inning, Virginia Wesleyan opened the scoring with six runs after seven hits. Olivia Knight singled to left field, moved to second as Lauren Bible was hit by a pitch, and moved to third on a wild pitch. Then, Morgan Tucker tripled to left field scoring Bible and Knight to lead 3-0. With Prosser at first Myers tripled to right field scoring Prosser, and Laci Campbel singled through the right side to score Myers to put the Marlins up 5-0. Campbell stole second, before Alison Pollack doubled to score Cambell. Emma Adams singled to left field to put runners on the corners before Knight single to score Pollack to give VWU a 7-0 lead.

The Marlins added five more runs in the seventh. Piotrowski led off the inning with a single, followed by a single from Alexis Hudgens. Then, Prosser singled up the middle to score Piotrowski. Myers was hit by a pitch to load up the bases for Laci Campbell who hit a sacrifice fly to allow Hudgens to score. Next, Alison Pollack homered to left field scoring Myers and Prosser to put VWU up 12-0.

Game Two:

Mackenzie Myers led the offense in game two, going 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring one run, and had three RBI. Allison Pollack went 2-for-2 with a double, scored two runs, and had two RBI. Laci Campbell went 2-for-3, scored two runs, had one RBI, and stole one base.

Lauren Bible got the win as she pitched 3.0 innings, allowed no hits or runs, and had four strikeouts.

Virginia Wesleyan kept their momentum from game one as they scored three runs in the first inning. Prosser led off the inning with a single and stole second. Laci Campbell grounded out to second to move Prosser in scoring position. A wild pitch got passed the catcher that scored Prosser to put VWU up 1-0. Pollack was walked and Emma Adams single down the right field line to move Pollack to second. Tucker singled and advanced on a throwing error that scored Pollack to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Mirandah Jenkins singled to left field to score Adams from third to lead 3-0.

Piotrowski led off in the second inning with a single up the middle, followed by a single up the middle from Prosser before Myers tripled to score both runners to take a 5-0 lead. Myers then scored on a throwing error by the shortstop to lead 6-0 to force a pitching change. Campbell singled off the new pitcher and stole second followed by a double from Pollack to score Campbell and give the Marlins a 7-0 lead.

Virginia Wesleyan continued its dominance in the third. As the lead off hitter Lauren Bible hit a double to left center. Piotrowski and Prosser walked to load up the bases for Myers who single to center field that scored Bible. Campbell singled up the middle to score Piotrowski to put the Marlins up 9-0. Pollack then singled to score Prosser from third to force another pitching change. Autumn Booth reach on a fielder's choice that scored Campbell and Morgan Tucker hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Pollack on an error to give the Marlins a commanding 12-0 lead.

The Marlins added two more runs to their lead one in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 14-0. However, the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. VWU went on to win the game 14-2.
