The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team (1-2) was defeated by Southwestern University 19-8.
Ben Andrews led the team with four goals, on nine shots with one ground ball,
Parker Lucas had two goals on four shots, and
Liam Murphy recorded two assists.
Zack Tucker recorded the loss in net as he played 39:47 minutes, allowed 15 goals, and registered five saves.
The game got off to a fast start as Virginia Wesleyan took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Ben Andrews and for Parker Lucas. However, Southwestern quickly responded, with their first goal for the Pirates at the 13:12 mark. Ben Andrews scored against to give the Marlins a 3-1 lead, but the Pirates scored six straight goals to lead 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, Virginia Wesleyan started well with a goal from Jeremiah Madriago to cut the lead to 7-4. Southwestern continued their good run of play, with Jackson Strauser leading the charge. Strauser tallied three goals and two assists in the quarter, helping the Pirates extend their lead to 11-4.
The third quarter was more of the same, with Southwestern continuing to apply pressure. The Pirates' defense also kept Virginia Wesleyan at bay, as they held the Marlins to just one goal in the period, a late unassisted score from Ben Andrews.
Virginia Wesleyan fought hard in the fourth quarter, and managed to outscore Southwestern 3-2 with a couple of late goals from Parker Lucas, George Psaltis, and Ben Andrews, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
