Marlins Sweep NC Wesleyan in Doubleheader

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (4-0) defeated NC Wesleyan 8-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two. 

Game One:
Olivia Knight led the Marlins going 2-for-2 with a double, and scored two runs with an RBI, Julia Piotrowski was 1-for-2 with a triple, scored one run, and had two RBI. Mackenzie Myers was 1-for-2 with a double, scored one run, and had one RBI. 

Emma Adams recorded the win as she pitched 3.0 innings, allowed no runs or hits, and tallied two strikeouts. 

The game was decided early in the first inning when Virginia Wesleyan scored seven runs. Mackenzie Myers started the scoring with a double to left-center that brought home Sarah Prosser. The hits kept coming, as Alison Pollack singled through the left side, driving in Laci Campbell and Mackenzie Myers. Next, Emma Adams laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring Pollack, followed by Olivia Knight, who singled down the left field line to bring home Adams. Julia Piotrowski then tripled to right center, plating two more runs, with Knight and Adams crossing the plate. Finally, Alexis Hudgens grounded out to shortstop, bringing in Piotrowski to complete the seven-run outburst.

The Marlins would add one more run in the third inning. Hudgens reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, that allowed Olivia Knight to score an unearned run, to seal the 8-0 win over the Battling Bishops. 

Game Two:
Alexis Hudgens led the offense going 2-for-3, scored one run, and had two RBI, Julia Piotrowski was 2-for-3 with a double, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and Alison Pollack was 1-for-3 with two RBI. 

Lauren Bible pitched a complete game in the second game 6.0 innings, allowed one run on three hits, and struck out four. 

In the first inning, Virginia Wesleyan took the lead when Alison Pollack singled to right field, bringing Laci Campbell home. 

North Carolina Wesleyan responded in the third inning with a run to tie the game at 1-1. 

Virginia Wesleyan regained the lead in the fourth when Julia Piotrowski doubled to left center, scoring Cali Megaro and advancing Lauren Bible to third, followed by Mirandah Jenkins hitting a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Lauren Bible from third. Alexis Hudgens then singled to left center, scoring Piotrowski to give the Marlins a 4-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Virginia Wesleyan added another run as Pollack grounded out to shortstop, driving in Campbell. 

The sixth inning saw a flurry of scoring for Virginia Wesleyan. Jenkins singled up the middle, scoring Piotrowski, followed by Hudgens, who also singled up the middle, to bring Jenkins home. Mackenzie Swanson then singled to left field, driving in Hudgens, and Sarah Prosser scored on a passed ball to seal Virginia Wesleyan's 9-1 win.
