Men's Basketball Falls to Guilford in ODAC Tournament

The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team (19-7, 12-4 ODAC) fell to #5 Guilford in Round One of the ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament. 

Omari DeVeaux led the Marlins' offense with 16 points, shooting 4-for-13 from the field, 4-for-9 from three point territory, and 4-for-7 from the free throw line; DeVeaux had one rebound, one assist, and one steal. Amari Moorer recorded seven points, going 4-for-11 from the field and 1-for-2 from the free throw line; Moorer registered eight rebounds and one assist. Khai Seargeant tallied nine points as he shot 3-for-9 from the field, 1-for-4 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-4 from the free throw; Seargeant also had one rebound and one steal.

The first points of the game were recorded in the third minute as Guilford scored two free throws and then went on to make two straight three-pointers, bringing the score to 8-0 with 15:34 on the clock. Paul Anderson responded with a three to put the Marlins on the board nearly five minutes into play. The Quakers made a three of their own, and then Omari DeVeaux shot another three to put VWU just five points behind. The Marlins stayed within 10 points of Guilford until they scored a three with 9:53 on the clock, gained a 20-8 lead. Guilford continued to outpace VWU, outscoring them 9-2 from 4:33 until the end of the first half.

The Marlins started the second half with confidence as Khai Seargeant executed a three-pointer within the first minute of play. Amari Moorer took advantage of a Quaker turnover as he scored in the paint to bring the score gap down to 18; but Guilford quickly recovered as they scored eight points in a row to achieve their largest lead of the night of 48-22 with 16:58 on the clock. The Marlins constructed a 12-5 run through the 13:15 mark, bringing the score to 53-34; but the Quakers continued to control the game, refusing to let VWU continue their comeback. Jeremiah Boateng and Omari DeVeaux made the final two baskets of the contest, but it was not enough to threaten the Quakers as they won by a score of 74-61.
