Marlins Surge Past Randolph College on Home Court

Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team (7-1, 2-0 ODAC) defeated Randolph College (3-5) at home on Saturday, December 6th, by a score of 71-62.

Amari Moorer led the way with 22 points, shooting 7-for-16 from the field, and 8-for-11 from the free throwline. He added four rebounds, three steals, and four assists, while Omari Deveaux added 16 points, shooting 6-for-15 from the field, one assist, and five boards. TJ East scored 10 shooting 4-for-5 from the field and 1-for-2 from deep, he had five rebounds, and one steal. 

Virgina Wesleyan started out strong with an early 7-3 run against Randolph College with shots from Omari Deveaux and Malcom Velmar. Randolph responded with a 8-3 to take an 11-10 lead at the 14:10 mark. The Wildcats continued their good run of play and extended their lead to 16-12, but the Marlins responded with a 7-2 run to retake the lead at 19-18 with 8:44 left in the first half.

The two teams traded points with Randolph taking a 28-27 lead at the 3:44 mark. However, the Marlins then pulled ahead with a 10-6 run before halftime, leaving the score 38-34. 

Coming out into the second half, the Marlins started strong with a big 6-0 run to take a 44-34 lead over Randolph. The two teams traded buckets, but then the Marlins went on a 7-0 run to take a 53-38 lead at the 14:37 mark. The Wildcats responded with back-to-back threes to cut the lead to 53-44 with 12:17 left in the game, but Virginia Wesleyan came back and went on a 7-0 run to lead 58-44. 

Randolph caught fire and went on a 16-4 run to bring the score close at 62-60 with 4:56 left in the game. However, the VWU responded with a 9-2 run to keep the lead and end the game 71-62.
