Virginia Wesleyan Holds Off #3 Shenandoah 2-1 to Advance to ODAC Championship

The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (15-3-2, 8-1-1 ODAC) earned a spot in the ODAC Championship with a 2-1 victory over #3 Shenandoah (11-7-3, 8-2-0 ODAC) on Wednesday afternoon at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex.

The Marlins wasted no time getting on the board, striking twice in the opening 13 minutes. Kaylyn Seitz opened the scoring in the 10th minute with her fifth goal of the season, setting the tone early. Just two minutes later, Alexis Manfredi doubled the lead with her seventh goal of the year to give Virginia Wesleyan a commanding 2-0 advantage.

Shenandoah responded in the 35th minute finding the back of the net to make it 2-1, but the Marlins' defense held firm the rest of the way.

Virginia Wesleyan and Shenandoah traded offensive opportunities throughout the match, with VWU holding a narrow 14-13 edge in total shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Allie
Greco recorded four saves to secure the win, while the back line led by Stephanie Koblish, Paige Bissell, and Alex Ortega helped contain the Hornets' late surge.

The Marlins will now advance to the ODAC Championship match on Saturday, November 8, with opponent and match time to be announced.
