Virginia Wesleyan Falls to Washington and Lee in ODAC Opener, 4-1

The Virginia Wesleyan Field Hockey team (3-5, 0-1 ODAC) fell to Washington and Lee (6-3, 1-0 ODAC) by a final score of 4-1 in their conference opener.

DJ Holsclaw stood tall in goal, playing the full 60 minutes. She allowed four goals while making several key saves to keep the Marlins within striking distance throughout the match.
Washington and Lee opened the scoring in the first quarter, finding the cage early to take a 1-0 lead.

Virginia Wesleyan responded well, holding the Generals scoreless for the remainder of the quarter and into the second. However, a second Washington and Lee goal in the 25th minute gave the visitors a 2-0 edge heading into halftime.

The Marlins showed resilience in the third quarter, with the defense stepping up to limit Washington and Lee's chances. Virginia Wesleyan capitalized on a key opportunity late in the period, as Lauren Kite found the back of the cage to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Despite the momentum swing, Washington and Lee regained control in the fourth quarter. The Generals added two more goals in the final frame to secure the 4-1 win. Virginia Wesleyan continued to fight until the final whistle, highlighted by determined defensive play.
