The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team (12-4-1, 6-3-0 ODAC) earned a dominant 4-0 win over Randolph (5-8-3, 3-5-1 ODAC) on Wednesday evening at Birdsong Field.
The Marlins struck early in the first half when
Zach Bittler scored in the 9th minute off an assist from
JaMarhe Wills, giving VWU an early 1-0 lead. Bittler doubled the advantage in the 34th minute with a goal assisted by
Grady Lawrence, putting Virginia Wesleyan comfortably ahead 2-0 at halftime.
Virginia Wesleyan maintained control in the second half, with
Nolan Schulte adding a goal in the 47th minute and
Kaden Onolaja scoring in the 72nd minute off another assist from Lawrence to secure the 4-0 shutout.
The Marlins dominated offensively, out shooting Randolph 21-9, including seven shots on goal, while controlling corner kicks 8-3. Both teams played a disciplined match, committing 11 fouls each, but VWU's defense allowed only one shot on target from Randolph all evening.
Goalkeepers
Seth Brown and
Ben Haynes split time in goal, with Brown playing 17:23 and allowing one shot on goal, while Haynes played 72:37 and recorded the clean sheet. The Marlins' back line, anchored by
Aaron Deans,
JaMarhe Wills, and
Ryan McAdams, remained steady, keeping Randolph off the scoreboard.
With the win, Virginia Wesleyan improves to 12-4-1 overall and 6-3-0 in ODAC play, finishing the regular season strong and building momentum heading into postseason competition.
