The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team (10-4-1, 4-3-0 ODAC) earned a hard-fought 3–2 road victory over Bridgewater College (10-3-2, 5-1-2 ODAC) on Wednesday afternoon at Jopson Field Athletic Complex.
Bridgewater took an early lead, but the Marlins responded midway through the first half when
Zach Bittler scored his seventh goal of the season to even the match at 1–1 heading into halftime.
In the second half, Virginia Wesleyan took control of the game as Bittler assisted
Nolan Schulte in the 51st minute to put the Marlins ahead.
Tyler Waddell added an insurance goal in the 79th minute, his first of the year, to extend the lead to 3-1. Bridgewater found the net again late, but VWU's defense held strong to secure the win.
The Marlins outshot the Eagles 12–7 and held an 8–1 advantage in corner kicks while controlling possession for much of the match.
With the win, Virginia Wesleyan improves to 4–3-0 in ODAC play and continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
The Marlins return home on Saturday, October 25, at 6:00 PM to host Roanoke College for Senior Day at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex.
