The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team (8-4-1, ODAC 2-3-0) earned a key ODAC victory Wednesday night, defeating Eastern Mennonite (6-3-5, ODAC 1-2-3) by a score of 3–1 at Birdsong Field.
The Marlins opened the scoring in the 36th minute when
Mason Wakefield netted his first goal of the season to give VWU the lead. Early in the second half,
JaMarhe Wills extended the advantage in the 57th minute, converting a penalty kick for his third goal of the year.
Nolan Schulte added to the lead in the 70th minute, tallying his first goal of the season to make it 3–0. The Royals managed to find the net late, but the Marlins maintained control throughout the match to secure the win.

Ben Haynes recorded one save and commanded the box well, helping the defense limit EMU to just six shots. VWU out shot the Royals 22–6, including nine shots on goal, while corner kicks were even at three apiece.
Virginia Wesleyan returns to Foster Field on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 4:00 PM to host Shenandoah University in another ODAC contest.
