The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team (7-2-1, 1-1-0) fell 2-0 to Washington and Lee University (4-2-4, 2-0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.
Washington and Lee scored early to take a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes. Virginia Wesleyan generated pressure throughout the first half, recording five shots but unable to find the equalizer before the break.
The Marlins continued to push forward in the second half, tallying 10 more shots and three corner kicks while searching for a breakthrough. In goal,
Seth Brown started and played the first 45 minutes, making one save, while
Ben Haynes came on for the second half and also recorded a save to keep the match within reach. Washington and Lee added a second goal late in the period to close out the scoring.
Virginia Wesleyan returns to action on
Wednesday, October 8, at 7:00 p.m., when the Marlins travel to
Ashland, Va. to face
Randolph-Macon College in ODAC play.
