The Marlins had an early scoring chance as Alex Moody narrowly missed a penalty kick that hit off the right goal post.
The Marlins continued to apply pressure at the end of the first half. Ilan Mejia and Josh Vincent passed the ball well as they approached the goalie's box. Mejia took a clean shot from inside the box but the Rutgers-Camden goalie was ready for the save.
The second half increased in intensity as Rutgers-Camden lost a man on the field due to a red card. Virginia Wesleyan attempted thirteen shots in the second half but was unable to secure a goal.
