Bridgewater Defeats Marlins in Conference Play

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (4-7, 2-2 ODAC) was defeated by Bridgewater College 22-6. 

Michaela Elston led the team with one goal and one assist, four draw controls, and caused two turnovers, Madison Pfister recorded two goals and was 1-for-1 on free position shots, three ground balls, two draw controls, and two draw controls, and Helen Kennedy-Butler had one goal and one assist, caused two turnovers, and three draw controls. 

Brittneyann Hoover started in net and recorded the loss, allowed 16 goals, and made six saves over 52 minutes of play. 

The Eagles started fast scoring four goals in the first five minutes of the game, but the Marlins responded with three goals, as Helen Kennedy-Butler scored a goal with an assist from Michaela Elston, then Shaunice Rone scored a goal with an assist from Kennedy-Butler to bring the score to 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. VWU scored the first goal of the second quarter as Madison Pfister scored a free position goal to bring the score to 4-3 with 13:56 left in the second quarter. 

Bridgewater responded with five goals to take a 9-3 lead. Pfister scored off an assist from Gabriella Watton to bring the score to 9-4. 

In the third quarter,  the Eagles outscored the Marlins 9-2 to lead 18-6 heading into the final frame. Elston scored in the third quarter with an assist from Gianna Delevan, and in the final second of the quarter, VWU's Maya Perry scored an unassisted goal. 

Bridgewater outscored the Marlins 4-0 in the fourth quarter to seal the 22-6 win.
