The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (19-6, 10-10 ODAC) lost 6-3 against top ODAC team #18 Randolph-Macon College in a mid-week conference contest.
On the mound for the Marlins, Ian Brady went 5.2 innings allowing four hits, one strikeout, and one walk. Anthony Rosko finished the sixth inning for the Marlins allowing one hit, one walk, and one strikeout. Tavon Williams pitched the seventh for VWU and had two strikeouts. Ryan Cowell finished the game for the Marlins for the eighth and ninth, allowing one hit, one run, four walks, and four strikeouts.
Offensively a slew of Marlins drew walks including Micheal Burton Jr. Sam Kasprow, John Bastiaans, Josh Goodrich, and Ty James. Micah Fox was 1-4 with 2 RBI on a home run in the first inning.
In the first inning, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on two hits to take a 1-0 lead. The lead would not last long though as the Marlins scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Burton Jr. was hit by a pitch putting him on first, Fox then came up and hit a home run to right field putting the Marlins up 2-1.
In the top of the sixth Randolph-Macon scored two runs on three hits to take the lead over the Marlins 3-2. The Yellow Jackets would score two more runs in their half of the seventh with four hits to increase their lead to 5-2. They added one more run in the top of the ninth making the score 6-2.
The Marlins scored one run in the ninth. Kasprow was hit by a pitch allowing him to go to first, he then got to second on a wild pitch putting him in scoring position. Bastiaans singled, advancing Kasprow to third. Kasprow scored on a wild pitch making 6-3.
The Marlins play their regular season game on Saturday, April 27th in a doubleheader against Washington and Lee University starting at noon. They will also honor their eight-member senior class before the start of game one. The Marlins only need to win one more game to clinch a spot in the ODAC tournament.
