The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team (3-2) was defeated by Wabash 11-8.
Mark Sprague led the Marlins scoring two goals and two assists, causing two turnovers, and had two ground balls, and teammate
Parker Lucas had two goals, one ground ball, and caused one turnover, and
Zack Tucker played all 60 minutes in net, allowed 11 goals, and made 10 saves.
The Little Giants scored back-to-back goals to go up 2-0 in the first quarter. VWU finally got on the board with 1:44 left in the quarter as
Ben Andrews scored with an assist from
Mark Sprague, and 12 seconds later
Sam Edwards scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 2-2 after one quarter.
The Marlins wasted no time in the second quarter as
Cooper Seidner scored an unassisted goal to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead. Wabash responded with a goal five minutes later to tie the game at three all.
Parker Lucas scored with a nice feed from Sprague to give the Marlins a 4-3 lead heading into the break.
After halftime, the Little Giants score the first goal of the second half to tie the game at 4-4. However, the Marlins responded with two straight goals with an unassisted goal by
Liam Murphy followed by a man-down unassisted goal from Sprague to put the Marlins up 6-4 at the 9:42 mark in the third quarter. Wabash answered with three unanswered goals to take a 7-6 lead into the final quarter.
Sprague scored his second unassisted goal to start the final frame tying the game at 7 all, but the Little Giants scored less than a minute later to take an 8-7 lead.
Parker Lucas scored with an assist from
Jackson Rockhill to tie the game up at 8-8 at the 11:08 mark in the fourth quarter. Wabash scored three goals in the final ten minutes to seal the 11-8 win over the Marlins.
