Neumann Outlast Marlins in 8-7 Win

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (2-2) was defeated by Neumann College 8-7. 

Michaela Elston led the Marlins with three goals, one assist, and one ground ball, Madison Pfister had two goals, two assists, three ground balls, and four draw controls, and Helen Kennedy-Butler recorded two goals, one assist, and one ground ball. 

Brittneyann Hoover played 58 minutes allowed six goals and had 13 saves. 

VWU scored first as Michaela Elston was assisted by Helen Kennedy-Butler. The Knight tied the game up at 1-1 with a goal at the 6:44 mark, but Virginia Wesleyan came back with two straight goals scored by Kennedy-Butler with an assist by Madison Pfister, followed by a Pfister goal assisted by Daphne Myers to put the Marlins up 3-1 with 1:14 left. Neumann scored a goal with 18 seconds left in the first quarter to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Knights scored the first goal in the second quarter to tie the game at 3-3 and scored one minute late to lead 4-3. Virginia Wesleyan's top goal scorer Helen Kennedy-Butler scored a man-up goal to tie the game at 4-4.

The Knights scored two straight goals in the third to take a 6-4 lead at the 8:33 mark. Madison Pfister scored a goal with a feed from Elston with four seconds left in the quarter to cut the lead to 6-5. 

Elston scored an unassisted goal to start the fourth quarter and tie the game at 6-6. However, Neumann scored back-to-back goals to lead 8-6 with 10:28 left in regulation. Elston scored a man-up goal with an assist from Pfister at the 5:45 mark to cut the lead to 8-7, but the Marlins were unable to score a goal and lost 8-7.
