Marlins Lose Late to Seagulls

The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (9-6) lost to the No. 4 ranked Seagulls of Salisbury University 11-6.
 
In the top of the first, the Seagulls wasted no time getting runs on the board by walks issued by the Marlins. After a double play allowed a run to score the Seagulls led 1-0, a single allowed another run to score to make the score 2-0, and then a passed ball made the score 3-0. 
 
The Marlins got some runs on the board in the bottom of the second. Micah Fox singled to lead off the inning, then stole second before Nick Sylvester homored to make the score 3-2. The Marlins then tied the game in the bottom of the 5th with a Thomas Crandall homer to make the score 3-3. 
 
The Marlins then took the lead in the bottom of the 6th, a single by Garret Cockerill, he then stole second before Sam Kasprow walked. Crandall then got hit by a pitch, Clay Clarke who walked to score Cockerill to give the Marlins a 4-3 lead.
 
The Seagulls tied retook the lead in the top of the seventh. A solo homer tied the game, and then a single and a homer gave the Seagulls a two-run lead. The Seagulls added to their lead in the top of the eighth after a throwing error by the Marlins allowed a Seagull on base. A fielder's choice and a walk gave the Seagulls two men on before a single scored a Seagull from second to make the score 7-4. A batter later a fly all allowed a Seagull to score from third to make the score 8-4. 
 
The Marlins added two more runs in their half on the eighth. After Crandall doubled, Micheal Burton Jr singled which allowed Crandall to get to third. Burton Jr and Crandall worked together to each steal a base which made the score 7-5. Fox then doubled which scored Burton Jr to make the score 8-6. 
The Seagulls added to their lead in the top of the ninth. After a walk and an error got two men on, a single scored a Seagull from third to make the score 9-6. Another single allowed another run from third to make the score 10-6. Another error by the Marlins allowed another run to score to make the score 11-6. 
 
Leading the Marlins was Crandall who was 2-4 with two runs and a stolen base. Burton Jr was 2-5 with a stolen base and a run. Sylvester was also 2-4 with two rbi, a home run, and a walk. 
 
The Marlins hit the road for a doubleheader against ODAC team Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, March 16th at 12pm and 3pm.
