The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team (3-4) was defeated by Hope College 18-10.
Parker Lucas led the Marlins with three goals, one assist, and one ground ball,
Sam Edwards recorded two goals, one assist, one ground ball, and caused one turnover, and
Ben Andrews had two goals, two ground balls, and caused one turnover.
Zack Tucker started in net and allowed ten goals and made six saves in the game, and
Allen Shaw came in relief and allowed eight goals and made nine saves.
The Dutchman scored the first four goals of the game, before
Parker Lucas scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 4-1. Hope went on to lead 8-1 by the end of the first quarter.
Virginia Wesleyan scored the first goal of the second quarter to cut the lead to 9-2. At the 5:04 mark, the Marlins scored again as
Ben Andrews found the back of the net with an assist from
Mark Sprague to bring the score to 10-3.
Ben Andrews scored with an assist from Lucas to go into the breakdown 12-4.
Hope College scored two more goals to start the third frame, but VWU countered with two back-to-back goals as Sprague was assisted by
Sebastian Reynolds, and then Edwards scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 14-6.
Liam Murphy ended the third quarter with an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 17-7 heading into the final quarter.
Virginia Wesleyan started to chip away at the Dutchman lead in the fourth quarter as Edwards scored an unassisted goal at the 13:33 mark, followed by a goal from
Parker Lucas who was assisted by Edwards, and Reynolds scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 17-10. Hope scored one more goal to seal the 18-10 win over the Marlins.
