The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (3-18, 1-14 ODAC) fell to conference opponent Ferrum 52-31.
Grace Harriman led the Marlins with seven points, shooting 3-for-9 from the field, four rebounds, and one steal, and Meadow Dyke scored six points shooting 2-for-7 from the field, led the team in rebounds with seven, and had one assist, and Jada Norman had six points shooting 2-for-5 from the field, and 1-for-3 from deep, tallied three steals, and had one rebound.
Keys to the Game:
- The Panthers shot 19-for-49 (38.8%) from the field, 2-for-12 (12.7%) from beyond the arc, and 12-for-19 (63.2%) from the free throw line, while the Marlins shot 12-for-50 (24.0%) from the field, 3-for-11 (27.3%) from beyond the arc, and 4-for-6 (66.7%) from the charity stripe.
- Ferrum had the advantage in the post, outrebounding the Marlins 39-32, and had 20 points in the paint compared to the Marlins 10.
How It Happened:
A low-scoring first half saw the Panthers hold an 8-2 lead after the first frame.
In the second quarter, the Marlins went on an 11-5 run to tie the game at 13-13 at the 4:49 mark. Ferrum countered with an 8-2 run to lead 21-15 at halftime.
Out of the break, the Panthers went on a 6-0 run to lead 27-15, but the Marlins responded with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 29-21 at the 2:07 mark. Ferrum held a 31-23 lead heading into the final frame.
Ferrum's defense held strong in the fourth quarter and sealed the 52-31 win for the Panthers.
