The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (5-5) defeated William Peace 12-4.
Samuel Kasprow led the team as he went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, scored two runs, and led the team with four RBI,
Thomas Crandall went 2-for-5 at the plate, with a double and a homer, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and
Michael Burton Jr. went 2-for-4, scored one run, and had one RBI.
Nick Beatty started on the mound and got the win as he pitched 5.0 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, and tallied nine strikeouts facing 20 batters.
The Pacers got on the board in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Marlins responded in the second as Crandall hit a home run to left center field to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second inning, Beatty struck out the side to give the Marlins a great opportunity to take a lead.
Keegan Megaro hit a lead-off single, and
Josh Goodrich and Kasprow walked to load up the bases.
Clay Clarke was walked to score a run and take a 2-1 lead.
Michael Burton Jr. was hit by a pitch to score another run and Crandall scored on a wild pitch to lead 4-1.
Chris Mitchell Jr. singled to start the inning, Megaro walked and a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third for
Josh Goodrich who grounded out to the shortstop to score Mitchell to put the Marlins up 5-1.
Michael Burton Jr. singled and stole second before
Micah Fox singled through the left side to score Burton from second to give Virginia Wesleyan a 6-1 lead.
In the fifth inning,
Trevor Sheets walked to get on base and two batters later Kasprow hit a two-run home run to extend the Marlins' lead to 8-1.
Fox was hit by a pitch, Mitchell Jr. singled, and Megaro got on base with a bunt to load the bases for
Jackson Hughes who was walked to score Fox. Kasprow doubled with the bases loaded to score two runs and give the Marlins an 11-2 lead. Crandall grounded out to the shortstop that scored Hughes to put VWU up 12-2.
William Peace scored one run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to cut the score to 12-4, but the Marlins bullpen and defense smothered the Pacer's bats to seal the 12-4 win.
