The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team (1-0) was defeated by Hood College 21-11.
Sam Edwards led the offense scoring two goals, and two assists, on five shots, and three ground balls,
Mark Sprague registered two goals and one assist, and
Liam Murphy had two goals on five shots, and one ground ball.
Zack Tucker played 60 minutes for the Marlins to move to 1-1 this season, had 13 saves, and 21 goals against.
The Marlins scored the first goal of the game as
George Psaltis scored an unassisted goal in the first minute of the game. Then, the Blazers scored 11 unanswered goals to lead 11-1 after the first quarter.
Hood College kept its momentum from the first quarter and scored the first three goals of the second quarter. However, the Marlins offense answered with five unanswered goals to cut the lead to 14-6.
Mark Sprague started the rally with an unassisted goal, and
Sam Edwards followed with an unassisted goal. Sprague scored the Marlins' fourth goal with an assist from
Sebastian Reynolds,
Liam Murphy scored with a nice feed from
Sam Edwards, and
Sebastian Reynolds scored an unassisted goal. The Blazers scored with a minute left in the first half to lead 15-6 at halftime.
The Marlins made some halftime adjustments and scored three straight goals.
Parker Lucas scored a man-up goal with an assist from
Mark Sprague, and
Ben Andrews scored back-to-back goals three seconds later, with assists from
Sam Edwards, and
Floyd Wells to cut the lead to 15-9. Hood scored four goals to lead 19-9 heading into the final frame.
The Blazers scored to lead 20-9,
Liam Murphy scored for the Marlins with an assist from
Seth Bearb to cut the lead to 20-10. Hood scored a goal at the 5:05 mark to lead 21-11, four minutes later VWU's
Sam Edwards scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 21-11.
