The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (3-3) defeated St. Mary's College of Maryland 11-5 in comeback fashion.
Thomas Crandall led the offense going 2-for-5 at-bat with a double, three RBI, and scored two runs,
Michael Burton Jr. went 1-for-3 at-bat, two doubles, with three RBI, and scored one run, and
Micah Fox was 2-for-4 at the plate, with a double, and had one off of a sacrifice fly.
Nick Beatty got the start and pitched 4.0 innings allowed three hits, two runs, and had three strikeouts, and teammate
Ryan Woolery got the win as he pitched 1.0 innings, allowed one hit, three runs, and had one strikeout in relief.
The Seahawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Marlins were held to four scoreless innings, then in the fifth
Thomas Crandall doubled to score Burton from first to bring the score to 2-1. While Fox was at the plate Crandall stole third before Fox hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored the runner at third tying the game at 2-2.
In the next inning, Virginia Wesleyan rallied as
Samuel Kasprow hit a lead-off single, followed by a
Matthew Weber and Garrett Cockerill walk to load up the bases for Burton who hit a sacrifice fly to right field that gave the Marlins a 3-2 lead. Crandall doubled scoring Cockerill and Weber to give the Marlins a 5-2 lead. Fox then singled and advanced to second on a throwing error that scored Crandall to increase VWU's lead to 6-2.
The Seahawks scored three runs on one hit in the seventh that cut the Marlins lead to 6-5. Virginia Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the seventh as Weber singled up the middle,
Keegan Megaro singled,
Josh Goodrich walked, and Burton Singled to left field to score Weber and Megaro to increase their lead to 9-5.
The Marlins added two runs on one hit and one error in the eighth to seal the 11-5 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland.
