The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team (10-6-3, 8-2, ODAC) fell short in the ODAC Championship to Washington and Lee by a score of 1-0.
Marlin goalkeeper,
Allie Greco, played an impressive game, recording five saves and only allowing one goal.
Emma Nguyen and
Adrianna Gunther each tallied a shot on goal.
The first half saw the Washington and Lee Generals in control offensively with 12 shots and six corner kicks compared to Virginia Wesleyan with one in each of the respective categories.
The Generals capitalized on their strong attack in the 43rd minute as Sarah Zimmerman overcame the Marlin defense to score the lone goal of the game for Washington and Lee.
Second half play intensified with the Marlins earning more offensive opportunities. The closest goal opportunity came in the 68th minute with
Emma Nguyen's shot on goal that was saved by a General defender.
Despite strong efforts by the Marlins to level the game in the second half, the Generals maintained their 1-0 lead to claim the ODAC championship.
