The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team (15-3, 5-1 ODAC) defeated Hollins 3-0, winning 25-19, 25-9, and 26-24.
Emma Claytor led the Marlins with nine kills, a . 500 hitting percentage, seven digs, one assist, and three block assists,
Madi Schmidt had six kills, a .364 hitting percentage, five digs, two block assists, one service ace, and one assist, and
Kendall Abercrombie tallied seven kills and 11 digs.
The Marlins jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but Hollins responded with an 8-2 run to take a 10-8 lead. VWU countered with a 7-2 run to lead 15-12, and the host again came back with a 4-0 run to lead 16-15. However, Virginia Wesleyan outscored Hollins 10-3 to win set one 25-19.
Hollins scored the first two points in the second set, but then Virginia Wesleyan went on a 25-7 rally to win the second set 25-9.
In the third set, Hollins built a 5-1 lead, but Virginia Wesleyan went on a 7-2 run to take an 8-7 lead. After a service error, the Marlins went on a 6-0 run to lead 14-8. Hollins never gave up and chipped away at Virginia Wesleyan's lead and tied the game at 18-18, but the Marlins went on a 4-1 run to lead 22-19. Hollins countered with a 5-2 run to tie the set at 24-24. VWU scored the next two points to win the third set 26-24.
