The Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team (11-2-3, 6-1-1 ODAC) defeated the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College 3-1 to continue their conference success.
Alex Moody scored a goal, and
Zach Bittler highlighted the night with two goals.
The Marlins' aggressive offense paid off early as
Alex Moody headed in a goal off Gio Zizza's corner kick to put the Marlins up 1-0 in the 17th minute of the game.
Randolph-Macon managed to level the scoreboard with a goal made off a free kick just minutes later. The Marlins continued to apply pressure in the first half with six corners and ten shots total, but the Yellow Jackets defended well to keep the score even going into halftime.
The Marlins continued to create scoring opportunities in the second half, and
Zach Bittler capitalized with a goal late in the period, assisted by
Tyler Waddell. Bittler secured the win for the Marlins will a follow-up goal, unassisted.
Ben Haynes allowed only one goal and played all ninety minutes as goalkeeper for the Marlins.
Virginia Wesleyan will face Washington and Lee in Lexington, Virginia on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the ODAC conference tournament quickly approaching. The Marlins are currently ranked second in the conference with only two games remaining.
