The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team (13-3, 3-1 ODAC) was defeated by Washington and Lee 3-0, 25-14, 25-13, and 25-15.
The Marlins were led by
Hannah Smith with six kills, 15 digs, and one block assist,
Breana Brooks had four kills and one solo block, and
Kyleigh Castengera recorded three kills, a .600 hitting percentage, two block assists, and one solo block.
The match started with the Marlins taking a 3-1 lead, but the Generals responded with a 12-3 run to take a 14-7 lead. VWU Chipped away at the host lead to bring the score to 19-13, but W&L outscored VWU 6-1 to win set one 25-14.
Virginia Wesleyan came out betting in the second set, building a 3-2 lead, but Washington and Lee went on a 12-4 run to lead 14-7. The Generals kept the pressure on and won the second set 25-13.
In the third set, with a 2-0 lead the Generals continued their attack and jumped out to a 6-2 lead. VWU chipped away at the lead and brought the score to 11-8, but the host went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-10 lead. However, the Marlins countered with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 20-14, but W&L won set three 25-15.
