The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team (12-2, 4-1 ODAC) defeated conference opponent EMU 3-0.
Berkley Miller recorded the win and played the first half allowing zero goals.
The first quarter was a defensive battle with the Royals holding the Marlins to three shots on goal and went into the second quarter with a 0-0 score.
The Marlins' offense exploded as they had a 13-0 shots on target advantage that earned them two goals. The first goal was scored by
Isabelle Rogers with an assist from
Dani Poulsen at the 17:34 mark. Next,
Ashlyn Boykin scored the Marlins' second goal unassisted to put Virginia Wesleyan up 2-0 at the half.
In the third quarter, VWU kept up the pressure which resulted in a goal scored by
Lauren Hedspeth to put the Marlins up 3-0.
Overall the Marlins outshot the Royals 52-1 with a 29-1 shots on-target advantage, the Royals keeper tallied 26 saves, and VWU had an 18-1 advantage in penalty corners.
