The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team (17-3, 7-1 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Randolph 3-0, winning 25-23, 25-18, and 25-17.
Hannah Smith led the offense with 13 kills, 18 digs, one solo block, one block assist, and one assist,
Madi Schmidt tallied 10 kills, 14 digs, and one block assist, and
Emma Claytor recorded eight kills, two digs, and two block assists.
The Marlins started well in the first set building a 5-2 lead, and then extended their lead with a 4-1 run to lead 9-4. However, the Wildcats responded with an 8-2 run to take a 12-11 lead in the set. Virginia Wesleyan came back scoring back-to-back points to lead 13-12, but Randolph went on a 6-3 run to lead 18-16. Each team scored three points over the next six serves to bring the score to 21-19, but the Marlins rallied with a 6-2 run to win set one 25-23.
A close start to the second set saw the teams tied at 3-3, but the Marlins went on a 5-1 run to lead 8-4 early. Randolph bounced back with a 4-2 run to cut the lead to 10-8, but VWU responded with a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 17-10. The Wildcats went on a monster 8-0 run to take an 18-17 lead, but Virginia Wesleyan responded with an 8-0 run of their own to win 25-18.
In the third set, the Wildcats jumped out to an early 6-4 lead, but VWU responded with a 3-1 run to tie the match at 7-7. Randolph scored the next two points, but that sparked the Marlins offense to go on a 12-3 run to lead 19-12. The teams traded points the rest of the way and Virginia Wesleyan went on to win the third set 25-17.
