The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (3-11, 1-7 ODAC) fell to the Apprentice School 57-48.
Juliana Anderson led the team with 10 points shooting 3-for-10 from the field, and 3-for-9 from beyond the arc, with one rebound, two assists, and one steal, Mekayla Clarke scored eight points shooting 4-for-8 from the field, grabbed seven rebounds, and two steals, and one assist, and Grace Harriman had eight points shooting 2-for-8 from the field, 4-for-5 from the free throw line, with two rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
Keys to the Game:
- The Apprentice School shot 22-for-53 (41.5%), 1-for-8 (12.5%) from beyond the arc, and 12-for-17 (70.6%) from the free throw line, while VWU shot 17-for-53 (32.1%) from the field, 4-for-19 (21.1%) from beyond the arc, and 10-for-13 (76.0%) from the charity stripe
- The Builders had the advantage in points off turnovers 22-8 and outscored the Marlins in the Paint 36-12.
How it Happened:
The Builders put together a couple of early baskets and took an 8-2 lead, but the Marlins came back with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 8-7. VWU kept at it and outscored the host 6-4 to tie the game at 13 all with 3:30 left in the first frame. The Apprentice School went on a 4-2 run to end the first quarter with a 17-15 lead.
In the second quarter, the Builders went on a 9-0 run to lead 26-15. The teams traded buckets, but the Marlins were down 36-25 at halftime.
The third quarter was a low-scoring affair as the Apprentice School managed to outscore Virginia Wesleyan 9-7 to lead 43-34 going into the final frame.
The Builders extended their lead to 50-34 early in the fourth quarter, but the Marlins surged going on an 8-1 run to cut the lead down to 51-42. VWU managed to whittle down the lead to 53-46, but could not overcome the deficit and lost 57-48.
