The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team defeated Wisconsin-Oshkosh 5-2.
Shyenne Diaz led the Marlins' offense scoring two goals in the contest and recording an assist,
Alexis Miller tallied one goal and two assists on the day, and
Grayson Yeager scored a goal.
Virginia Wesleyan had a strong first 20 minutes but was unable to break the deadlock until
Shyenne Diaz scored a goal in the 28th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. One minute later
Abigail Smith doubled the Marlins' advantage with a great pass from
Alexis Miller. The Marlins outshot the Titans 12-1 in the first half and led 2-0.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh made great second-half adjustments and scored at the 46:24 mark of the second half. The Marlins held on to the 2-1 lead, but the Marlins defender made an error fouling a Titan attacker in the 18-yard box that awarded the visitor a penalty that they converted tying the game at 1-1.
With the game tied up, the Marlins made subs to get back in the game. In the 68th minute,
Alexis Miller found the back of the net with a beautiful assist by
Victoria Gonzalez to give VWU a 3-2 lead. The Marlins didn't let up as
Grayson Yeager scored at the 73:37 mark to increase their lead to 4-2. Two minutes later
Shyenne Diaz scored her second goal of the day to seal the Marlins 5-2 win.
