The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (5-2, 1-0 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Ferrum 3-0.
Krista Anderson led the Marlins with one goal and one assist,
Shyenne Diaz scored the game-winning goal, and
Abby Volkman scored the first goal of the season to seal the win for the Marlins.
Rachel Quigley got her third shut out of the season, playing 85 minutes, and made zero saves.
The two teams were deadlocked after 45 minutes of play. The Marlins outshot the Panthers 10-1 with three shots on target and had a 6-0 advantage in corners.
In the 62nd minute,
Shyenne Diaz finally broke the tie with a goal in the top right corner of the net from the right side of the 18-yard box.
Four minutes later the Marlins doubled their advantage as
Stephanie Koblish crossed the ball into the middle of the box and
Krista Anderson shot the ball into the top left corner of the net to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
Krista Anderson was a key contributor as she set up the Marlin's third goal with a pass to
Abby Volkman that went into the top left portion of the net to go up 3-0.
