The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team (12-2, 2-0 ODAC) defeated Eastern Mennonite 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-16) in conference play.
The Royals started well leading the Marlins 5-3 early in the set, but the Marlins countered with an 11-2 run to take a 14-7 lead. EMU outscored the Marlins 4-3, but the Marlins strung together another long run and went on to win the first set 25-14.
EMU took a 3-0 lead, followed by a 6-0 run from the Marlins to lead 6-3. The Royals tied the score at 6-6, but the Marlins came back with a 5-0 run to lead 11-6. The Marlins kept their lead until the Royals went on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 17-16. However, VWU outscored EMU 8-3 and won set two 25-19.
In the third set, Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Royals rallied with a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. The host kept the lead until the Marlins went on an 11-2 run to lead 22-14. VWU went on to win 25-16 in the third set.
