Marlins Win 3-0 Against Bridgewater

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team (13-2, 3-0 ODAC) defeated Bridgewater 3-0, winning 25-23, 25-22, and 25-18.

Abigail Mahoney led the offense with 13 kills, a .364 hitting percentage, two digs, two block assists, and one assist, Hannah Smith was second in points with 11 kills, a .233 hitting percentage, 11 digs, two service aces, one block assist, and two assist, and Morgan Ludovici recorded 12 kills, with a .242 hitting percentage, nine digs, one block assist, and one assist.

Haley Sutton led the team with 22 assists, three service aces, had 10 digs, and two kills, Cara Caruso registered 17 digs and six assists, and Emma Claytor was big at the net with five block assists, and eight kills with a .500 hitting percentage. 

The Marlins jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set, but the Eagles went on a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 8-6. After trading several points, Bridgewater went on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 15-14. However, the Marlins countered with a 5-2 run to take a 20-15 lead to force an Eagles timeout. Bridgewater went on a 5-3 run to cut the lead down to 22-20, but the Marlins held on to win 25-23 in set one. 

A tightly contested second set, with the teams tied at 6-6, but Bridgewater went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-7 lead over the hosts. The Marlins rallied with a 12-2 run to take a 19-13 lead. The Eagles fought back, going on a 6-3 run to cut the lead to 21-19. Virginia Wesleyan went on to win the second set 25-22.

VWU kept the momentum as they went up 7-1, the Eagles responded with a 5-2 run to bring the score to 8-6. Bridgewater chipped away at the Marlins lead and was able to take a 12-11 lead. Virginia Wesleyan countered with an 8-1 run to lead 19-12. Bridgewater never gave up going on a 5-3 run to cut the lead down to 21-17, but the Marlins outscored the Eagles 4-2 to win the third and final set 25-18.
