The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (3-2) defeated Mary Washington University 3-0.
Shyenne Diaz led the Marlins' offense scoring two goals in the contest,
Breacain McClenahan also tallied one goal in the match.
Virginia Wesleyan started off strong offensively. In the 17th minute,
Shyenne Diaz kicked a ball into the net off of a goalkeeper's deflection to make the score 1-0.
The Marlins stayed strong throughout the first half defensively as they limited the Eagles' shots.
In the 53rd minute,
Shyenne Diaz took advantage of her space on a through ball, freed herself from a defender, and had an electrifying shot to put the Marlins up 2-0.
In the 73rd minute,
Stephanie Koblish placed an astounding corner kick to
Breacain McClenahan who headed the ball into the net to make the score 3-0.
With this shutout win, the Marlins are 3-2 on the season. Up next, Virginia Wesleyan will travel to play Salisbury University on Wednesday, September 20th, at 4:00 p.m.
