Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Bridgewater 18-7

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (2-9, 0-3 ODAC) lost to conference opponent Bridgewater 18-7. 

The Eagles scored the first two goals of the contest to lead 2-0, but the Marlins responded at the 5:27 mark as Madison Pfister scored off a feed from Mikayla Szudera to cut the lead down to 2-1. 

Bridgewater scored six unanswered goals in the second quarter to take an 8-1 lead. Madison Pfister scored with an assist from Michaela Elston with 2:48 left in the quarter to cut the lead to 8-2. 

The host outscored the Marlins 5-1, with the lone goal coming off a free position shot from Breanna Sviland to cut the lead down to 13-3 heading into the fourth quarter. 

After two quick goals from the Eagles, Virginia Wesleyan scored back-to-back from Michaela Elston scoring off a feed from Breanna Sviland and scoring her second goal off a free position shot to bring the score to 15-5. Bridgewater responded with two goals to lead 17-5. However, the Marlins fought back as Helen Kennedy-Butler scored an unassisted goal. Then, Kennedy-Butler scored with 1:25 left off a pass from Mikayla Szudera. The Eagles scored one more goal to seal the 18-7 win. 

Michaela Elston led the team with two goals, one assists, six draw controls, and two ground balls, Madison Pfister recorded two goals, three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls, and Breanna Sviland had one goal, one assists, and two draw controls. 

Brittneyann Hoover tallied the loss in net, played 60 minutes, had 18 goals against, and registered 12 saves.
