The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team (6-4, 3-1 ODAC) defeated conference opponent Randolph 26-5.
The Marlins offense was led by
Liam Murphy who scored nine goals, had two assists, with 12 shots on net, and three ground balls, and
Sam Edwards did it all today, scoring six goals, with two assists, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Virginia Wesleyan started strong as
Jackson Dinger scored with an assist from
Liam Murphy at the 13:45 mark.
Liam Murphy scored the Marlins' second goal, followed by a goal from
Sam Edwards with a feed from
Daniel Auxier to take a 3-0 lead. Randolph scored a man-up goal before the end of the quarter to bring the score to 3-1.
The Marlins shut out the Wildcats in the second quarter and added five goals to lead 9-1 at halftime.
Mark Sprague scored the first goal of the quarter with an assist from Dinger, then Murphy scored with an assist from
Jackson Rockhill. Sprague scored a solo goal followed by back-to-back goals from Murphy.
Sam Edwards started the scoring in the second half. Then,
Gavyn Tawes scored with an assist from
Jackson Rockhill to lead 11-1. Edward scored off a feed from
Kris Barnum before Murphy scored to take a 13-1 lead. Randolph scored to cut the lead to 13-2, but the Marlins had several man-advantage opportunities to score four unanswered goals with two man-up goals and one man down to lead 17-2. Both teams scored another goal that brought the score to 18-3 at the end of the third quarter.
In the final frame, the Wildcats outscored Virginia Wesleyan 2-1 to cut the lead to 19-5, the Marlins' goal scored by
Jack Butcher. However, VWU scored seven straight goals to seal the 26-5 win.
Mark Sprague recorded three goals in his return, with seven shots on goal, one ground ball, and one caused turnover,
Daniel Auxier registered two goals and one assist, and
Myzaiah Garris scored three goals on six shots.
Zack Tucker got the win in the net, playing 45 minutes, had three goals against, and tallied eight saves.
