Baseball Falls to Randolph-Macon

The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team (5-28-1, 4-15-1 ODAC) lost 12-5 to conference opponent Randolph-Macon. 

The Marlins scored in the top of the first as Michael Burton Jr. walked moved to second as Jaelen Hines grounded out, and Connor Hall singled to right field to score Burton. Randolph-Macon tied the game in the bottom of the first with one run. 

Jake Ness walked and moved to second on a single through the left side from Burton, followed by  Hines getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Matt Sinko grounded out into a double play that socred Ness to take a 2-1 lead. 

The Yellow Jackets took a lead scoring three runs in the bottom of the third to lead 4-2. 

In the fifth, Ness singled to right field advancing to third on a failed pickoff attempt that went into right field. Burton was hit by a pitch, stole second, and a wild pitch scored Ness to cut the lead to 4-3. Hines walked before Matt Sinko was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Connor Hall who hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Burton and tie the game at 4-4.

The Marlins took a 5-4 lead in the seventh as Hall singled to center field, then Trent Hanchey hit an RBI double to left field scoring Hall.

The Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead 10-5 and two in the eighth to win 12-5. 

Connor Hall led the team going 2-for-4, scoring one run, and two RBI, Trent Hanchey went 2-for-5 with a double and recorded an RBI, and Jake Ness went 2-for-2 and scored two runs. 

Micah Fox started the game and pitched 3.0 innings, allowed four runs, six hits, and struck out one. Blake Mitnick registered the loss, pitched 0.1 innings, and allowed two runs.
